In John's “ASCENSION” art series, he touches on the passing of our loved ones, astral projection, alternate dimensions, ancestral remembrance, and our spirits connecting to nature. The figures in the paintings are composed in a binary between body and spirit, either completely separated or in the process of being divided. The brush strokes are intended to be erratic and imperfect. Bolstering out of frame and rippling into the mesh organic landscape. The silver represents the “silver linings” between our existence and the spiritual. In these large drawings, John tells his stories of spiritual experiences connecting with nature from the Philippines and Guam.
